Super Sunset Series 2010 Event Details


2010 Race Dates:

Thursday 28th January 2010  -  Tan Track (Botanical Gardens)

Wednesday 10th February 2010 - Visy Park (Princes Park)

Wednesday 24th February 2010 - Melbourne Zoo

Wednesday 10th March 2010 - Docklands Dash (Docklands Park-Waterfront City)



All events start at 7.00pm. Registrations will open at 5.30pm.

 

The Event

  • Refreshments, fruit and water will be provided following the run/walk.
  • Participants should arrive between 5:00-6:30pm to collect their race number and timing transponder from the Race Collection marquee.
  • Electronic timing transponders must be worn on your left ankle and returned upon finishing the event. A fee of $80 will be charged for any transponders not returned to MCS on the day of the event.
  • Participants can register for the first three events as a Series.  The Docklands Dash is a stand alone 4km event.  All participants who register for the series will receive a series T shirt and can collect it from 5.30pm at Races 1 and 2.
  • Presentations will commence at approx 7:45pm.
  • AIMS measured courses with details available soon.
  • Team entries must be submitted together to redeem promotional offers.
  • Preliminary results will be available from the MCS website within 48hours following each event.
  • No dogs, roller blades, or scooters permitted.
  • For wheelchair or special needs access, please contact MCS on 9604 8600
  • Registrations must be received at least 1 week before the event to receive the early bird rate.
  • Melbourne City Sports reserves the right to cancel event/s at short notice due to weather or in the interests of public safety.
  •  Melbourne City Sports does not refund entry fees. Notification will be posted on the MCS website.

 Registration and Race Packet Collection:

  • All entries received one week prior to your first run will be acknowledged.
  • Participants must arrive between 5.00pm - 6.30pm to collect their race number and transponder from the Race Pack Collection marquee.
  • Electronic timing transponders must be worn on your left ankle and returned upon finishing the event. Please take care - MCS will charge $80 for non- returned or damaged timing transponders.
  • There are no individual awards for the walk category as it is a participation event only.
  • Race numbers and timing transponders can be collected on the day of each event. No race numbers will be mailed out.

 Prizes: 

  • Open & Junior (U15) - 1st, 2nd & 3rd at each event.
  • Series winners - Individual and Team (Presented at the Docklands Dash event).
  • Great prizes for 1st placed participants.

8km Junior Female/Male

  • 1st:- $100 Performance Pack
  • 2nd:- SSS T-Shirt, Archie Cap
  • 3rd:- SSS T-Shirt

Corporate/ Team Rules:

While each race is a separate event, to be eligible for the overall team prizes, the following rules apply:

  • Teams must consist of four people (any gender) completing the same distance.
  • A team must compete in the firts three races to qualify for the series team prizes.
  • The best three times per team, per race will be calculated for the team result.
  • As only the top three runners times are calculated for the overall times, teams may race with only three runners on any given night and still be in the running for the overall prize.
  • Team members will be eligible for individual medals and prizes.

Cancellation Policy:

In the event of extreme weather conditions or in the interests of competitor safety, Melbourne City Sports reserves the right to cancel an event/s at short notice. MCS does not refund. Cancelled events will not be rescheduled.

Extreme Weather Policy

Melbourne City Sports will ensure that they provide a duty of care to all participants and staff, with the well-being of individuals being of highest importance.  Extreme weather may be defined as weather that threatens the immediate or long-term safety of individuals, as a result of rain, lightening, wind or heat. The risk to individual well-being is determined in line with Sport Management Australia’s Guidelines 2005-2006, as well as forecasted conditions. Events are likely to be cancelled in the following circumstances, 2 hours prior to event time:

  • Ambient Temperature >36 degrees Celsius
  • Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (shade) >30
  • Apparent Temperature (wind chill) <2 degrees Celsius
  • Wind Speed >40 km per hour
  • Rainfall >80mm within 24 hours

In cases of extreme weather Melbourne City Sports will make the decision to cancel an event or sport. Notice of event cancellations will be made at least two hours prior to the scheduled start time. This announcement will be posted on the Melbourne City Sports website and available by phoning (03) 9604 8600.  All earlier enquiries will be advised to phone or check the website two hours prior to the event. This policy is effective immediately.

 YMCA Open Doors

The YMCA open Doors Initiative is a targeted intervention that will assist disadvantaged people in our community access the many benefits offered bu the Y. The YMCA Open Doors Initiative is tackling disadvantage and inequality by;

  • Making YMCA programs easier to access and more affordable
  • Emphasising early intervention, prevention and education
  • Matching programs and services to individual needs

Volunteers

  • MCS requires over 200 volunteers for the series. We seek friendly groups and individuals for numerous roles for approximately five hours per event. Volunteers  make the event accessible and safe. Visit the Employment/ Volunteers section of the MCS website for more information.
